On June 5, the 2024 National Environment Day main event, jointly organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Central Office of Promotion of Cultural and Ethical Progress, and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was successfully held in Nanning, Guangxi. The China Quality Certification Centre (CQC) was invited to participate and provided carbon neutrality verification services for the event.
The theme for this year's Environment Day was "Comprehensively Promoting the Construction of a Beautiful China," aiming to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping's thought on ecological civilization. It sought to guide society in firmly establishing and practicing the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," mobilizing all sectors to actively engage in building a beautiful China and realizing the great practice of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.
During the event,CQC awarded the carbon neutral certificate to Zhang Xingying, Deputy Director of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Department of Ecology and Environment, on behalf of the event organizers. The quantification process of greenhouse gases during the event's organization adhered to principles of completeness, standardization, accuracy, and transparency. The organizers effectively controlled and reduced the event's carbon emissions by using environmentally friendly materials, optimizing waste management, and encouraging digital communication. Remaining emissions were offset by canceling an equivalent amount of carbon credits meeting relevant standards. This process complied with the "Guidelines for Carbon Neutrality in Large-Scale Events (Trial)." Verified by CQC, the event achieved carbon neutrality.
Looking ahead, CQC will continue to play a leading role as a "national team," actively and broadly participating in green and low-carbon initiatives nationwide. CQC will contribute more to helping the country uphold the concept of green development and achieve the "dual carbon" goals.
