On November 16, 2023, CQC was invited by the EU Delegation to attend the seminar on "EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism: Considerations for Climate Policy and Impact on Chinese Enterprises." The keynote speeches were delivered by EU Climate Action Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra, Director-General of Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission, Jerasimos Thomas, and EU officials responsible for the design and implementation of the CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism). Representatives from CQC spoke about monitoring and reporting on the Chinese carbon market as guests during the seminar.
That evening, the EU Ambassador to China, Nicolas Chapuis, hosted an EU CBAM exchange dinner at the embassy residence. Officials including Wopke Hoekstra, Jerasimos Thomas, David Boublil, Director of Indirect Tax and Tax Management and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism at the Energy and Green Tax Unit of the European Commission, and Luo Haojun, First Secretary at the EU Delegation, joined the event. The head of the Product Certification Department VI of CQC was also invited to attend the dinner and had discussions with Ambassador Chapuis and other EU officials about the latest developments related to CBAM and the third-party verification requirements.
In the future, CQC will actively leverage its professional capabilities to continually monitor the progress of CBAM policies, provide specialized "dual carbon" technical services and support, assist companies in proactively addressing challenges posed by the CBAM mechanism and other climate trade barriers to China's export trade and global supply chains, and contribute to the successful achievement of China's "dual carbon" goals and the development of global economic trade.
